Camera Systems
There are many technologies and products to consider when deciding on your camera system.

Digital Video Recorder
The traditional system that you see on Law and Order has cameras recording to video tape, well that system has been changed - the tape is replaced by a hard drive, but the concept is the same. Any number of cameras are recorded onto a computer hard drive.

But since you are recording to a computer you many more options, recording time, motion detection, quick immediate replay and much more. These units typically are viewed by a dedicated monitor, or in a home on one or more TVs. This system usually has the cameras powered by a single power station and can be battery backed up for operation during electrical failure

Just Viewing
Another popular system is to not record at all, but just to allow viewing on one or more of your TVs. The DVR (Digital Video Recorder) is an expensive component and it can be replaced by a device that combines multiple cameras into a single video stream for viewing on a dedicated monitor or one or more TVs.

IP Cameras
This technology basically combines a small computer with a camera. This allows anyone (with proper access credentials) to view the camera. This technology provides the lowest entry price and you can add as many cameras as you need. Optional software allows you to view multiple cameras on a single screen. Many of the cameras we install allow you to hear what is going on and with optional speakers, talk to someone in the room. You do need an high speed Internet link at both the camera and the viewing PC location. You do not need to be connected to your router, many of these cameras are available in wireless configurations.
Since these cameras are viewed on your PC, it is a simple matter to record to your local hard drive.

There a wide range of cameras available for your home or business. The system you need depends a few factors Such as:

  • How many cameras do I need to cover the area you wish to monitor?
  • Do you need to have it recorded 7x24? Or do you just want to be able to view them?
  • How long a time do you want to have available for replay - days, weeks, months?
  • Do you need night recording or viewing.
  • Where do you want to see the cameras? Dedicated monitor or on your TV or PC?
  • Do you need to see the cameras via the Internet?
There are a couple of things to consider if you want to view the cameras on the Internet.
  • You must have a high speed Internet connection at both the camera location and the viewing location.
  • Wireless cameras are available, but you must have power at the camera location.
  • Webcams depend on your PC being up and running.
